Ain't Nothing Like Grace & Forgiveness

forgiveness

“Mrs. Owl, you have the WORST MUSTACHE. Have you ever thought about shaving it??” My son Tyler looked innocently into the eyes of our then new neighbor & waited anxiously for her response. I saw the color leave Rick’s face & I felt like crawling under the breakfast table! Only days before, we had prepped our very young children, begged, even BRIBED them to be on their best behavior after agreeing to meet the new couple for breakfast. That breakfast started off smooth without a hitch. Yes mam, no mam, thank you mam, and as a little added extra Tyler even pulled my chair out for me! I was gleaming ear to ear. I just knew our next stop would be to purchase the item he had been promised for good behavior. It appeared that I had succeeded in falsely proving that the Weeks were a “precious” couple, with innocent “precious”   children, with ‘precious“ manners! At that time I don’t know why but it seemed like the conversation at every table seized and all I could here was my then 5 yr. old  blurt out, "Mrs. Owl, you have the worst mustache have you ever thought about shaving it?” I think he could see the fear on my face and he knew right then and there He had MESSED UP!!

You know there have been times in my marriage when I did not think before I spoke or even lashed out at my husband & I will just be honest and say  I MESSED UP!! Do you ever have times when you can’t believe what you just said? I fail, I make mistakes &  I can just sometimes be a selfish person. Sometimes when we don’t get things our way we tend to think about our own desires & we say or do things that offend our spouse. You remember that little saying as a kid “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” Well I can tell you there HAVE  been times when words have destroyed self esteem, brought about depression, bitterness & caused hurt in our relationship. All of us are guilty. Sometimes I have to just forget about my pride, look at my husband and say I am sorry and I need you to forgive me. Sometimes I have to get down on my knees and cry out to God and say “Father forgive me, I messed up.”  Yes, sometimes I’m selfish, I tick people off, I MESS up big time, and I need the word of God to keep me in his will. Thank you God for grace & forgiveness oh and for turning my MESSES into a MESSAGE of hope.

1 John 1:9 If we {freely} admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. BEV:)
