Dear Santa, I want a Lalaloopsy doll, a Fidget Friend, Ferby and an Elf on the Shelf and I will gladly trade my brother Tyler for ANY of the things listed above! Love, Macy
For months leading up to Christmas, my daughter's wish list had not wavered. I felt excited to know that like a CSI secret agent, I was able to actually track down the very popular, yet very scarce items that my eight year old had listed. That was until the last twenty-four hours before Christmas and wouldn't you guess it.......
"You have got to be kidding me! You want a what??" I could hardly believe the items my eight year old daughter Macy had blurted out. What made it even more puzzling was the fact that the two items she mentioned were not even close to anything that she had shared with me from her list to Santa. "Momma, I want an Abraham Lincoln History book and a snow globe and when I open that package from Santa I promise you that I will scream, because I will be the happiest girl in the world!" At that moment, I think I could feel all five feet four and a half inches and one hundred fifty plus pounds start to sink into the hardwood floors.
I knew I had shared with my children that this Christmas things would be a little different, and I knew I had shared with them all about living in a "season of contentment" because mommy had left her job, but I also knew without a doubt that I would love more than anything to hear her loud shrill of excitement and if a tiny snow globe and a history book would create that memory for her then surely I could set out to the nearest Wal-Mart or local mall with all of the other 100,000 plus frazzled late shoppers in search of last minute gift items.......
What was your favorite childhood fantasy toy? Do you remember the Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots, Monopoly, Star Wars Ships, maybe it was a certain doll? I can't help but laugh as I remember specifically one year all I asked for was a Slinky and a Rubik's Cube. I know I am telling my age but that Rubik's Cube was my MUST HAVE item in the 1980's.....that along with a can of White Rain Hairspray, Air Supply and Barry Manilow records, a Caboodle Make-up box and a tube of Hot Pink Lipstick!! Funny how those small and insignificant items to so many, made for special memories that I can remember well into my forties.
You know, just the other day I cried on the phone with a precious friend whose husband had lost his job. On top of that, he had been recovering from an unexpected surgery, their heater had broken and all the events had led to financial uncertainty as they were preparing for the Christmas season. Later in the day, I received a text from yet another friend who had been standing for nearly two years for her marriage, and had received a message from her spouse that he was "ready to proceed with the divorce."
My heart was broken. Just being candid, I have seen quite a bit of that in just this last year. Marriages torn apart by affairs, isolation, unforgiveness.... Friends who have struggled with physical ailments, financial distresses, the loss of a job, depression, isolation... There have been several nights that I have felt the urge to fall to my knees or have just laid awake in my bed crying out to God. At those times I would have gladly traded ANYTHING on my Christmas wish list for my friends to feel that peace and hope that only comes from Jesus Christ.
Will you Join me in praying for those on this Christmas day who are struggling, that they will experience the Hope of Christmas?
Father God, today we come to You on behalf of the broken, the confused and the hurting. We ask that You surround them with Your love and a peace that can only come from You. We ask for healing and hope for those who are struggling with their marriages, broken relationships, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, loneliness, broken finances, physical sickness.....Father let them feel Your presence this Christmas and experience the greatest gift of the season which is the joy that can only be found in You. We ask all of these things in Your precious name, the name of Jesus, Amen.
From all of us here at Intentionally Yours, we love you & hope you have a Merry Christmas!
