Nothing is Wasted

It is hard to understand why things happen to us. It is even harder to understand why Godly, Christian men and women pray fervently for change, and nothing happens. At least, nothing that they can see. Sometimes I think that we forget that we cannot see into the hearts and minds of those we are praying for. I do not think that our prayers go unheard, or even unanswered.

Nothing is Wasted

Sometimes, a person's heart is so hard and their walls so high that our prayers are only making dents into them.  But each prayer you make, widens the crack through the darkness, and light will begin to shine through.  Hearts are being softened, and hearts changed, even when we can't see. I believe this, because I believe that for seven years people were praying for me, even though they didn't know just how far from God I had run.  But God was moving and working, even when I thought I was outside of His reach.

So when you start to doubt, and wonder if your prayers are being heard, remember that just because you can't SEE a huge change, hearts and minds could still be softening, one small piece at a time. The years of tears and pain, the longing and loneliness, they do NOT go unnoticed! When you finally see the true change in the heart and life of your loved one, no matter how long it takes, the years will fall away.  All that will remain is the blessing that comes when a prodigal returns home.  And take it from me:  the blessings will be more than you could ever hope for or imagine.

One of my favorite songs right now is called "Nothing is Wasted" by Jason Gray.  Allow these lyrics and this song to be a reminder to you to keep praying and waiting.   God will use this time that you spend standing to achieve His purpose.  Maybe right now your purpose in waiting is to encourage someone else to keep holding on.

Maybe there is someone else out there that needs to hear your story and the two of you can stand together for your marriages, because they are going through the same situation.  I don't know why you are in this place of waiting.  But I do know that God will honor your patience and endurance.  You will learn so much through this experience, if you open your heart up to what God wants to do.  Because I believe He does want to do SOMETHING through you, as you experience what may be the hardest weeks/months/years of your life.

My favorite line from the song I mentioned, aside from the chorus, is this: "But what if every tear you cry will seed the ground where joy will grow."  Think about it.  Let your tears fall.  Don't hold back as you hurt and grieve.  But don't get swallowed up by it either.  Remember that in the hands of our Redeemer, NOTHING is wasted.  Not your tears, not your pain, not the years you spend waiting for change.

Keep believing, keep trusting God, and most of all, keep praying.  Your prayers do make a difference, even if you don't see what is unfolding in the heart of your prodigal.

"Nothing is Wasted" by Jason Gray

The hurt that broke your heart And left you trembling in the dark Feeling lost and alone Will tell you hope's a lie But what if every tear you cry Will seed the ground where joy will grow

And nothing is wasted Nothing is wasted In the hands of our Redeemer Nothing is wasted

It's from the deepest wounds That beauty finds a place to bloom And you will see before the end That every broken piece is Gathered in the heart of Jesus And what's lost will be found again

Nothing is wasted Nothing is wasted In the hands of our Redeemer Nothing is wasted

From the ruins From the ashes Beauty will rise From the wreckage From the darkness Glory will shine Glory will shine

Nothing is wasted Nothing is wasted In the hands of our Redeemer Nothing is wasted
