Why isn't my spouse suffering in the midst of his/her affair?
This is what we ask ourselves sometimes, isn't it? When we've been betrayed by our spouse, right? Maybe your spouse isn't showing any signs or indication of ever returning and coming home. They appear to be living life to the fullest, happy, and often free of responsibility, guilt or remorse.
What is suffering?
Don't even go there with the why isn't he/they/she suffering. A life with out Christ IS suffering in and of itself as it is empty and without purpose. It is devoid of a future.
WE DEVALUE that future with Christ and all that He sacrificed and accomplished on the cross when we speak words that even hint, that a life WITH Him is of the same equality and caliber as a life lived like those WITH OUT Him.
I don't know what will happen to our marriages, whether they are in trouble or not. But it DOES glorify God to NOT lose heart and to continue to PRAISE HIM no matter what, in the midst of trials and challenges. THAT is the glory. To love and follow Christ, even in the hardest of times...to death.
Judas was too weak for it, Peter faltered BUT STILL, Peter, Paul, and the rest, had a passion and faith strong enough to endure faithfully to the very end. Ask, what was the glory in THAT for them? If not for what was to lie ahead?
Count on this: The wicked won’t get off scot-free, and God’s loyal people will triumph. ~Proverbs 11:21
A life devoted to things is a dead life, a stump; a God-shaped life is a flourishing tree. ~Proverbs 11:28
There is so much more hope in focusing on Jesus and the changes in you than on your spouse. Pray for your spouse to come to know Christ and to walk with Him fully.
