Proverbs 20: The Heart

heart

"Follow your heart." Isn't that what we hear from well meaning friends when we're in a quandary? Yet sometimes it's the heart that leads us right into trouble, outside of God's desires for us.

It's an issue of the heart. When you respond quickly from the heart, drawing from your own desires, oh the potential to follow our desires away from God and into places that break His heart- foolishness, lust, dishonesty, laziness, pride...the list is long. As you spend time with God, getting to know Him and His character, you can more easily recognize the desires He has placed in your heart. And it is those deep desires that we must draw from when responding to the world around us.

If 'following your heart' leads you in a direction contrary to God's Word...check how deeply you are drawing from your heart. Are you drawing from the shallow waters of your wants?

Only when you draw from the deep waters of God's desires and design for you, will you be able to walk boldly, according to His Word, negotiating whatever comes your way. Only then will you be able to distinguish what is God's best from all the tempting options.

Proverbs 20 is filled with that wisdom!
