True North: Truth about God and You

Some days life feels overwhelming, like you can't even win for losing. Days when every obstacle seems insurmountable, and God seems far away, like He's on the horizon instead of holding you in His loving arms. The enemy takes moments like these, agrees with you by giving you reasons that God is so far away, which satan intends to send you to a place of despair because the mountains before you- in your life, your marriage, your children, your faith, your family, your work- seem immoveable.

Be encouraged today that regardless of how you feel, God is right there with you. He knows you inside out and loves you anyway. He knows your spouse inside out and loves him/her anyway. Take time today to know that not just in your head, but in your heart today.

How do I do that? I pray Psalm 139, I cry it out to God when I feel lost or like my life has become chaotic, using it like a compass to find true north- truth; truth about me and truth about God. When I know the truth about God and about me, it is then that I know who I am, where I am and can see the good God is up to in my life. And that is being oriented!

Consider praying Psalm 139 for your spouse and children, replacing "me" and "I" with their names. Pray it out loud, whispering or boldly declaring it in their lives.

Psalm 139
You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. or you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.How precious to me are your thoughts,[a] God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you.If only you, God, would slay the wicked! Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty! They speak of you with evil intent; your adversaries misuse your name.Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord, and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

God has perfect knowledge of us, and all our thoughts and actions are open before Him. Meditating on God's truth, applying them to your life, and with your heart lifted to God in prayer will calm a chaotic and unsettled mind. What a reminder that God knows all things- He is omniscient! And He is everywhere- He is omnipresent!. God sees every step you take. He knows by what rule you walk, toward what end you walk, and with what company you walk.

When you speak God's Word into your life (and your spouse's and kids' lives), it goes forth to accomplish what it is intended to accomplish. God moves mountains when you speak His Word in faith. You may not understand the how, why, when of His plans for your life, but He promises that it is for our good and His glory!

Lord Jesus, give me eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart engaged in You. I want to know who I am, where I am, and the good You are up to in my life! In Your precious name we pray, AMEN!

Where have you seen God move mountains in your life?
